Everyone has a palette knife in their toolbox, but do you know how to use it? In this class Michele will teach you how!

There are various ways to hold and use a knife to produce different effects and it can all be accomplished with one or two knives. You will learn new ways to create drama with thick juicy paint. Art collectors love seeing the artist’s hand in the work through these impressionistic techniques and textures. Create sparkling water effects, dramatic café scenes, street scenes full of movement and energy and dynamic and colorful landscapes all with the use of this fun tool. And most importantly learn how to finish your paintings without overworking.

Although Michele paints in oils – the importance of design, composition, value and color relate to any medium. Michele will walk you through her design process, from value study/thrust map to final composition, explaining her thought process along the way.

This is a great class if you are not comfortable with a knife and want to learn how to use it for limited areas of your piece such as buildings and telephone poles, or you can use it for the whole piece.

Please bring 4 to 5 photos of your own and Michele will help you choose the best ones and create a great composition with a value study. Then you will move on to create a new painting full of life, drama, and movement. Michele will also cover how adding figures to your pieces will create a story. A figure placed at the correct area will help move the viewers eye through the painting to enhance that story.

DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARKS. Many artists are timid in using dark values and as a result their artwork looks flat and dull. I’m sure you have heard the phrase – “Values do all the work and color gets all the credit.” In this class I’ll guide you to have more courage to be bold and create dynamic values.

Join Michele for a fun, inspirational and educational workshop at this beautiful venue!

Michele will be using Cobra Water soluble oil paint. Traditional oils and acrylics can be used. If using acrylics she suggests using open acrylics or a slow drying medium.
