Creative tearing and paint splashing starts off this workshop. You will learn how to begin a new fresh body of work with your own artistic voice and point of view. Think “artist retreat,” producing a body of work, a series of paintings or your conceptual solo show. You will learn new techniques for painting and using collage with specific themes for each painting day, including:

Small, Colorful Multiples – How to create more meaningful abstract paintings in a small scale format! Not exactly a miniature, but artwork created for small spaces, based on graphic design, color and a strong concept. Bob has called these his “little gems” since 1996.

Abstracted Figures – Without a model, learn to add a figure and life to your painting. Paint the illusion of figures into a loose and juicy abstract painting. You will learn how to create Bob’s memorable “carrot people” in different poses, for today’s modern art world, whether painting the figure in landscape or loose abstracts.

Adding Collage Papers to your Painting – This is a daily exercise, focusing on making your own collage papers, then experiment with layering collage, acrylic paint, water soluble pencils and crayons.

All days, you can expect hands-on demos, graphic design techniques and basic formulas. Plenty of painting time, and critiques from Bob. All levels. Handouts will be provided.

About Robert Burridge

Robert Burridge, a noted award-winning Industrial Designer who, after twenty-five years in the corporate world, focused his life to painting everyday. Burridge attributes his success to his education from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, his stint as an adjunct professor at Cooper Union in New York City, and in 1966, his Fluxus art performances with Yoko Ono, Nam June Paik, Jim McWilliams and Charlotte Moorman. His work hangs in permanent collections of international embassies, corporate galleries and art colleges. His solo museum exhibitions received positive attention, so he was invited to exhibit his paintings at the Smithsonian Folklife Circus Arts Festival in Washington, DC.
