Spend the weekend bringing new life to natural fabrics, vintage finds, and/or fresh whites.

We’ll start off with a day of dyeing; learning about layered dyeing and resists with indigo, use fiber reactive dyes with ice, and do some experiments with a few other fun dye tricks as well. If we have time, we may also make an optional little field trip to a local resale/vintage shop to stock up on some fun items to dye on Sunday or practice our new design skills on.

You’ll have the opportunity to have items you’ve dyed with indigo on the first day washed & dried to use the following day as we explore printing and surface design.

After learning the basics of dyeing, we’ll learn about different methods of surface design on fabric! We’ll do some linocut block carving and printing, learn how to prep your items for printing, and play with fabric pens and paints. I’ll cover my tips & tricks for achieving a nice opaque print on fabrics with printing inks and have a wooden press available for use.

If you need suggestions for items to bring, a few of Adina’s favorites are; white denim apparel, Robert Kaufman Essex Linen yardage, white cotton slip-on shoes (like Vans or Keds), & linen tanks and white tees. Please note; we will not be dyeing yarn or raw fiber in this workshop – and will not be able to dye large items like blankets.

About Adina Marguerite Pease

Adina Marguerite Pease is both an artist & a maker who lives to wander, both geographically and within artistic mediums. Instead of specializing in just one medium, Adina maintains a portfolio of fiber, ceramic, print, and paint works – typically created in collections around a central theme. Her creativity sparks when she’s able to translate the same motif into multiple mediums.

Much of her recent work has focused on block printing, particularly block printing on fabric and apparel. Since 2018 she has been showing and selling her printed apparel at markets throughout the Hudson Valley and Berkshires regions. In 2020, Adina began delving into the world of indigo dying and in 2023, held her first solo exhibition at the Gallery at Citiot in Catskill, NY; artist/maker/indigo. As part of that show, she began teaching community indigo dye classes to demystify the process for beginners.
