Join Debora Stewart in this innovative workshop where she merges abstraction with elements of nature. Drawing inspiration from the stunning landscapes of the Hudson River Valley, we will create sketches from various locations throughout the workshop. These inspirations will guide us in producing nature abstractions using pastel and/or acrylic painting techniques. This workshop caters to both pastel and acrylic artists.
Topics to be explored include:
Drawing inspiration from nature
Mixed media drawing
Techniques for pastel and acrylic
Merging abstraction with natural elements
Focusing on flowers and landscapes
Harnessing intuition and working expressively
Developing a series of works
Transitioning from small to large pieces
Utilizing notans in composition and color selection
You will benefit from my demonstrations and discussions, along with individual critiques and group feedback during the five-day workshop. Artists will have plenty of time to immerse themselves in their work during daily studio sessions. By the end of this workshop, you will leave with fresh ideas for creating nature abstractions and a renewed perspective on the world around you.
You will take a trip to Olana, the historic property of Frederick Church, one of the founding members of the Hudson River School of Art on the first day of the class to gather photographic inspiration from the grounds and beautiful vistas of the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains.
