Abstract Evolution: Volume Two is the next step in developing your abstract voice—an immersive experience designed for returning students and artists ready to go deeper into their creative process.
This workshop is designed for artists who are already comfortable with the basics of acrylic painting and want to expand their visual language through deeper, more intentional work. In this next-level workshop, we’ll use many common mixed media supplies ad surfaces including stretched canvas, wood, and paper—but add new layers to our approach through collage, color exploration, and project development.
Collage for Composition
Use collage as a design tool to build structure, explore contrast, and refine your compositional instincts.
A Practical Approach to Color
Go beyond the basics with in-depth—but approachable—color studies. Learn how to:
• Mix vibrant and muted tones without muddiness
• Understand the difference between translucent and opaque paint
• Saturate and desaturate strategically to create more depth and harmony
• Develop a regular color study practice that supports your style
Developing a Collection
Throughout the week, you’ll build a cohesive body of work in a chosen color palette or thematic direction. You’ll learn how to stay intentional while leaving room for spontaneity.
Creative Goal Setting
Each student will set personal creative goals at the start of the workshop. We’ll revisit those goals throughout the week as part of your evolution and reflection process.
• More independent exploration, supported by instructor demos and group discussion
This workshop is ideal for artists with some experience in abstract or acrylic painting who want to stretch their skills and push their voice forward. If you’re a beginner or want to build a stronger foundation first, check out Abstract Evolution: Volume One, which takes place the week prior.
You are welcome to take both weeks as a powerful, immersive journey in your artistic development.
