You may work with oils and/or soft pastels.

In this 5 day class, we will work with a live model for 2 days, with a live photo shoot at the end of the second day. We’ll explore drawing, composition, anatomy, proportion, value, color and medium application. Emphasis will be on developing form using light and shadow. My step-by step method will help you simplify the complicated. If you are bewildered by color or are wanting to speed up and become looser in your work, you will benefit from this class.

For the photo shoot on the second day, you can use your digital camera, phone or iPad to photograph the model in action. From the many pictures you take, you’ll choose several to work from during class on days 3-5. I prefer you use an ipad or a printout for your reference during class on those 3 days. If you do not have an iPad, the office can print out pictures for you. I do not want you working from your phone.

Please bring extra cash to the class to tip the model for the photo shoot; you will be getting lots of photos to work from in your home studios.

Please note there is an $80.00 model fee for this workshop.

About Margaret Dyer

At a moment in 1970, when a model dropped her robe and stood naked in front of a class of wide-eyed eighteen year old art students, Margaret found something in life she loved – the challenge to draw the living, breathing, continuously moving landscape of the human body. What started out as a challenge quickly became a passion. Ten years later, when Margaret happened upon Kate Fetterolf’s dynamic pastels at a local exhibition, she knew she had discovered her medium.
After 30 years working in pastels, Margaret has spent the past few years transitioning to oil painting. Margaret wanted a different tactile experience; she was tired of dropping and stepping on expensive pastels (there goes another $6.00); she felt she was repetitious in her work; she wanted to learn to paint. The recent awards for her oils at the American Impressionist Society and National Oil and Acrylics Painters Society exhibitions confirm she is going in the right direction. Margaret has lived in Atlanta, GA, since her family moved from Long Island, New York, in 1960. She attended the Atlanta College of Art at the High Museum and furthered her studies under painters Roman Chatov, Kate Fetterolf and Jim Richards. Margaret has made her living for over 30 years selling her work and teaching.
