This class combines painting and stitching. Students will start by creating layers of imagery onto thin canvas with layers of thin fluid acrylic paint and bits of fabric or paper that is fused or glued. Each set of canvas features a color scheme of your choosing. The canvases are then cut apart and pieces are used to stitch together a complex composition. Your composition can be completely abstract or an abstract representation of a still life, florals, or a landscape.
The reconstructed canvas is layered with batting and backing, and then stitched. These stitched pieces can be stretched on a frame to be ready to hang or inserted into a quilt of the same design to create a many textured creation. Katie will show you how to do both of these finishing techniques, including making your own frame.
