In this five-day workshop, print your own personal fabric line, then use it to make an improvisationally pieced modern quilt top. Explore a multitude of ways to apply color to fabric using acrylics inks with broad brush strokes, salt, pleating and shibori techniques. Learn the art of hand printing fabric and applying pattern. Learn to make easy, fun and inexpensive foam stamps, and how to use wood, hand-carved rubber and foam stamps effectively. Learn to use thermo-fax screens to add crisp graphic pattern.

Then use your unique fabric to create innovative free-form quilt blocks with simple cutting and piecing techniques. Learn Judy’s foolproof basting technique, her alternative couched cord binding method and so much more!

About Judy Coates Perez

Judy Coates Perez is an International award-winning mixed-media textile artist and author, who travels globally to teach painting and mixed-media techniques and lecture about her creative process and sources of inspiration. She received my BFA in graphic design from The Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, but found her true passion when she began working with textiles.

One part gypsy and two parts visual alchemist, Judy travels to new places, opening up new realms of possibilities for her students by revealing endless ways to combine paint, paper and metal with fabric and the sources of inspiration we all too often overlook in our immediate worlds. You can find her work in her books; 10+ Techniques with Acrylic Inks, and Alternatively Bound and Stitched, between the pages of Quilting Arts and Cloth Paper Scissors magazines, and many other textile publications, in three instructional DVD’s published by Interweave and see her on Quilting Arts TV.

Judy’s caravan of creativity now resides in Sacramento, CA.
