In this three-day workshop, you’ll learn a creative way to craft an art quilt while also cleaning up our planet by using single-use plastics as your fabric. They come in a myriad of colors, thicknesses, patterns and even textures, and can sewn almost like fabric. Plan on collecting them over a few weeks in advance of the workshop and you’ll be surprised by the variety. During the workshop, you’ll create art inspired by nature with the plastic bags. Natalya will show you how to prepare the plastic, cut it, and stitch it by both hand and machine. You will experiment with different substrates and finishes, and create an art quilt like no other.
Techniques and skills covered in the workshop include composition, collage, hand stitching and basic embroidery, machine thread sketching, finishing, as well as alternative display ideas.
