In this five-day workshop, you’ll create original art quilt collages exploring a variety of ideas and techniques for layering fabric, paint and stitch. Take inspiration from your photos and other favorite images. Rather than copying the images, learn how to pick out elements of design and other interesting features and apply them to original designs. Experiment with several methods of creating pattern and marks on fabric. Use design guides for composition. Explore a variety of techniques and motifs for hand and machine stitching.
We’ll have short daily exercises exploring specific ways to apply inspiration to shape, line, color, texture and mood. Sharing and discussing daily work gives us an opportunity to learn from each other and clarify your own desires about what kind of art you want to create. Past students have said these short daily exercises made a huge positive impact on their creative process and the way they think about the elements and principles of design.
Part of each day will include demos and presentations from Deborah and group discussions. There will also be time for you to work independently plus lots of one-on-one mentoring and support from Deborah.

About Deborah Boschert
Deborah Boschert creates art quilts with layers of fabric, paint and stitching. The personal symbols and details in her work reflect her experiences and feelings about places she’s lived and the things she’s done. In her art quilts, the tiny details are as important as the over-all design. As in life, every-day little joys compliment the bigger adventures.
Her award-winning art quilts have been exhibited in quilt shows and art galleries throughout the United States and internationally. She has appeared on Quilting Arts TV and The Quilt Show. She is published in many books and magazines. Deborah is the author of Art Quilt Collage: A Creative Journey in Fabric, Paint and Stitch.
Deborah regularly gives presentations and workshops to quilt guilds and visual arts groups. She is always eager to share her ideas about creativity and the possibilities of creating with fabric. She gently nudges students to try new things as they work through the process of creating original art that they love.
Deborah and her husband, Jeff, live just outside of Dallas, Texas with their two kids, Claire and Benjamin and their lab-mix Lincoln. They love to travel, learn new things, sing show tunes and eat brownies and ice cream.
