Velda Newman has always been fascinated by flowers. From the wild California Poppy growing on the hillside to an exotic orchid from some distant land and everything in between. This five-day workshop will concentrate on reproducing the essence of flowers you select as a subject. First, you will explore machine stitching techniques for texture and shape. Next, you will learn the basic steps for applying acrylic paint to fabric; blending colors and shading. Learning the basic uses for each medium, how to apply, what medium to use in certain situations. Velda will also cover how to use inks and pencils and you will work on a composition through using an overhead projector.
Using an overhead projector will give you a choice of sizes (up to 3′ X 3′) to choose from for the composition. Please bring photos (or even prints from your computer) of flowers you are interested in working with.
Students will benefit from seeing all the other work going on in the classroom because everyone is working on a different composition and solving problems with a different perspective.
