This “playshop” is designed to reconnect you with your unique creative self – the informally structured workshop will start out with a review of all sorts of products and mediums that Katie will bring with her. As a certified creativity coach and professional educator, Katie will make sure to get the creative juices flowing right from the start. She will discuss also creative blocks and useful techniques to push closer to creative bliss. Color theory and the principles of design will be used for a fearless quilting experience. Quilting experience is NOT required. Just show up ready to play.
You’ll make several small whole cloth paintings using Katie’s materials and learn some uncommon finishing techniques. Throughout the workshop Katie will offer more personalized instruction to help guide you along the way. Expect to take several finished projects home!
Katie’s philosophy about art quilts is as follows: There is no creative hierarchy. Most of us are doing this because we love to do it. I do not necessarily want you to “color outside the lines” unless you want to color outside the lines. Trying new things is often a wonderful way to spark an existing creative passion. There is no right or wrong way to do what she’ll be teaching. It’s all about finding the creative flow by being self-accepting.
Katie brings everything from paint, markers, and pens – as well as fabric and stitching materials! You just bring your imagination and a paint shirt!
Note: There is a materials fee of $75.00 for this workshop.
About Katie Fowler
Katie Fowler is an art quilter and that’s a dangerous thing to say in the art world! People often respond, “Oh, my Great Aunt Whozee made quilts.” Katie’s pieces are not bed coverings. They are personal and meaningful expressions of who she is and her interpretation of the world around her. Katie loves to bend the rules of traditional quilting and create with courage.
Katie is a professional educator/artist, author, speaker, and certified creativity coach. She lives with her husband in their recently empty nest near the foothills of Colorado. When she’s not being creative, talking about creativity, or writing about creativity, she enjoys cycling, snow skiing, reading, and laughing!
