During this five-day workshop, Paul will begin by meeting with the class to explain the upcoming week’s format and answer any questions that participants may have. Paul will place emphasis on the fact that while participants will work hard through the week, it should also be both exhilarating and fun!
Paul will conduct three demonstrations using a live model during the first three afternoons of the week (oil, pastel, and watercolor). These demonstrations last about 2 ½ to 3 hours each. Concentrating on the big light and dark shapes, rather than line, Paul reveals a step-by-step approach to achieving a dynamic portrait.
At all other times, students will be drawing or painting from models. During these times, Paul will work individually with students at their easels. Work from the model in the medium you choose, as Paul offers individual guidance and instruction at your easel. Paul stresses many starts rather than finished portraits, so you can develop the skills of seeing values, design, and color. You can then build on these concepts using your own techniques.
