Join Debora Stewart for an innovative workshop for both pastel and acrylic artists. You can come again if you have attended in the past because Debora always has new ideas to share! Its also a great way to work on a series of work with individual guidance from Debora. Debora will share her technique for combining abstract underpainting and pastel to achieve expressive pastel and acrylic paintings. She shows how to develop abstracts from beginning to end.
You can work in pastel or acrylic or both. You will explore both non-objective and abstract realism. Abstract art doesn’t have to be a mystery and Debora shows you how to find those ideas for your own work. Bring an open mind and playful attitude and have fun experimenting and finding new energy in your work.
Topics will include working on paper and developing ground for pastels, working on sanded paper with waterbased oils, drawing from observation, composition and color choices, using small studies to create larger works, expressive mark making with pastel and acrylic paints, incorporating mixed media techniques, bringing your work to conclusion and finding your own unique style and vision.
About Debora Stewart
Debora works in both soft pastel on paper and mixed media acrylics on canvas. Her expressive and intuitive works are often inspired by nature. Her line drawings of plants and flowers are created from life. She later uses these drawings in abstract pastel works. Her pastel works often inform her work in acrylics. One medium inspires the other. Debora is represented by galleries throughout the U.S.
Debora L. Stewart is a Signature Member and Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of America and a member of the Master’s Circle of the International Association of Pastel Societies. Her pastels have won awards from Pastel Journal Magazine, International Artist Magazine and the Pastel Society of America. Her work has been included in many national and international juried exhibitions. Debora’s work has been included in invitational exhibits in France and China. She has also been a featured artist in the French magazine Pratique des Artes July 2018.
Debora works in both soft pastel and acrylic mixed media on canvas. Debora has taught abstract workshops extensively throughout the U.S. She is a sought after instructor by pastel societies, art guilds and schools. She is the author of Abstract Art Painting: Expressions in Mixed Media published by Northlight Books in 2015 in addition to a series of teaching videos. She has served as a judge for artist competitions in Pastel Journal Magazine and pastel societies in the U.S.
