Enjoy moving forward, learning new ways to enhance the beauty we see from our eyes in this workshop with David Taylor. Our base in Greenville, New York provides the perfect playground of inspirational subjects throughout the Hudson River Valley and Catskill Mountain region.
Throughout the workshop David will provide demonstrations to assist in helping all participants understand the unique qualities of watercolor. David will also give talks on color mixing, strength of pigment, composition, drawing skills, handling wet paper, and simplifying. Many facets of this wonderful medium will be looked at with the aim to enable better outcomes in our final results. We will search for the magic and poetry of this flowing medium and assistance will be given to help achieve a good outcome. At the end of the workshop participants should see some wonderful changes in their work. Constructive comments will be made throughout the workshop.
Plan on bringing along your outdoor painting equipment, lots of color squeezed into a good sized palette, and good quality paper such as Arches or Saunders Waterford Rough at 140 pound weight.
About David Taylor
David is recognized internationally for his painting, teaching and his services to the arts.
Born in Melbourne Australia in 1941, David’s early career began in etching and a 6-year apprenticeship at the north Melbourne Printing School of Graphic Arts to color etching assisted in his future career as an artist painter. Many hand skills were learned such as hand engraving, lino and wood cutting also etching with zinc, copper and magnesium, later etching on film in lithography.
David’s painting career expands many years of studying the art of watercolor painting and he has been involved in teaching his great love of this medium to painters both in Australia and overseas since the late sixties. He is involved in regularly tutoring for the Australian and International Artist magazine.
His numerous achievements include over 100-awards in watercolor, including the Herald Sun Best Of Show Gold Medal Award at The Camberwell Rotary Exhibition 2002 and a silver medal in 1976. and Silver Award currently in 2007. David won the the prestigious Victorian Artists Society Artist Of The Year Award in 1976, 1980 and again in 1989. That same year, David received the Distinguished Leadership Award for outstanding services to watercolor and teaching from the International Directory of Distinguished Leadership and a certificate of merit for distinguished service to the community.
David’s works are represented in numerous public and private collections worldwide.
David’s work is regularly exhibited in Australia, in several states, in England, the Channel Islands and Stockholm. He has held regular one man exhibitions of his work since 1975.
In each exhibition David expresses his joy of working freely on location and his love of spontaneity, shape, light and color.
There have been many varying influences on David’s painting journey and he is inspired by the impressionists Monet, Turner and the expressive John Singer Sargeant. Also Winslow Homer, Brabazon Brabazon and Whistler make the list. David is inspired by subjects that convey atmosphere mood and feeling. His book entitled “Solving The Mystery of Watercolor” features David Taylor’s work and was co-written by Ron Ranson. His work is also on film and DVD with APV films.
