Debi Pendell is a 1999 recipient of an Individual Artist Fellowship Grant from the Greater Hartford Arts Council. Her work is in the permanent collections of Oppenheimer Funds Inc., New York, NY, The Center for Cancer Care in Springfield, MA, and in Connecticut, St. Francis Hospital, Hartford Hospital, Naugatuck Valley Technical Community College, Hamilton Sundstrand and West Woods School, along with several private collectors in the United States and Canada. "All art is both representational and abstract: representational in that it represents actual things and actual events - even if they exist in the dimension of thought and feeling rather than in the physical dimension; abstract in that the aim is not to re-create a 'thing' in the world, but to depict the reaction in the artist's mind and heart to witnessing that 'thing'." Learning requires knowledge of the subject, love for the field and the ability to create a supportive learning environment. Debi Pendell has those qualities and communicates in a way that not only clarifies, but also sparks the imagination. "Expect surprise and discovery in this workshop. Using a mixture of acrylic soft gel and fine pumice gel as the ‘glue’, your mixed media collages will develop in layer over layer of materials and techniques using an intuitive and spontaneous process. No oil-based media will be used, but anything and everything else is welcome: pencil, marker, crayon, pastel, ink, acrylic paint, and any acrylic products, i.e. gesso, molding paste, glazing liquid, tar gel, etc."
