Medium: Pastel
Level: Intermediate/Advanced
Outdoor and Studio Class

Susan's strong, imaginative color is the common thread throughout her work, allowing each image to have its own voice, its own journey, its own destination. Her work is exhibited nationally and is featured in numerous collections and publications. Susan develops her paintings through a process of layering, working from dark to light.

“My landscape paintings represent impressions and observations; not a mere pictorial record of the area, but a statement about how the subject has affected me.”

This workshop is for the pastel painter who has experience with the medium, and is interested in developing a stronger commitment to composition and content in their paintings. By establlishing a more personal approach to using shape, value, and color, the student can learn to create a dynamic, sensitive, and uniquely personal statement about the subject.

Painting from nature, working on customized support surfaces, and creating compositions in the studio from value field studies are the heart of the class. “My goal with each student is to encourage exploration and self-discovery, motivate artistic growth, have fun . . .and act as the safety net!”
