Kenn Backhaus believes a painting is a moment of life, captured on canvas. He is dedicated to the plein air principle that capturing true color, value, and the mood of a subject is best done on location or through direct observation.

Kenn’s workshop is focused on fundamentals and principles that are essential in plein air painting. You will paint outdoors as Kenn explains the principles of composition, value, color temperature, edge control, and conveying the center of interest. Mornings start with a demonstration or discussion, then Kenn works with each student, building on strong points and working on weak areas to move you to the next stage in your development. Be prepared to work hard, laugh, and have some fun.
